1. We are seeking a motivated undergraduate student to assist with cardiac tissue handling and analysis. Duties as histologist include preparing sucrose-treated cardiac tissue for tissue sectioning at -20C using a cryostat, ensuring consistent thickness and minimal tissue damage. Tissue sections will be collected and stored into wells with freezing media. 2. Learn to distinguish cellular populations in different heart regions and work on projects investigating the numbers and distributions of different cells (endothelial cells, cardiomyocytes, and mural cells). This requires getting familiar with different heart regions. Use software to analyze digital images, including setting scales, adjusting thresholds, and using cell counter plugins to measure cross-sectional area and count cell numbers. |
