Job Description

Position Overview

For Commencement 2026, we are seeking responsible and professional student staff to support ticket distribution and serve as ticket takers for the University Commencement Ceremony.

Selected students will assist with in-person ticket distribution at our ticket distribution center from Tuesday, May 12, to Monday, May 18, 2026, and will work as ticket takers during the University Commencement Ceremony on Monday, May 18, 2026.

This role is highly visible and guest-facing, requiring excellent customer service skills, reliability, and professionalism. Student staff will play an important role in ensuring a smooth and welcoming experience for graduates and their guests.

Key Responsibilities

For Ticket Distribution (May 12–May 18), Ticket Ushers will:

  • Staff the ticket distribution center during assigned shifts
  • Verify student identity and eligibility for ticket pickup (training provided)
  • Distribute physical commencement tickets accurately and efficiently (training provided)
  • Answer basic questions regarding ceremony logistics (training provided)
  • Maintain organized records of ticket distribution
  • Escalate complex issues to event supervisors as needed
  • Always maintain professionalism and confidentiality

Commencement (May 18) Ticket Ushers will:

  • Assist with guest entry and collect tickets
  • Ensure only properly ticketed guests enter designated areas
  • Provide clear directions and general event information
  • Support crowd flow and guest experience
  • Follow all event, safety, and security protocols
  • Remain at assigned post until formally released by supervisor

Requirements

  • Must be a currently enrolled student in good standing
  • Availability between May 12–May 18, 2026, including full availability on Monday, May 18, 2026
  • Availability for a mandatory training session in April 2026 (exact date(s) to be confirmed)
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Professional demeanor and clear communication skills
  • Punctual, dependable, and detail-oriented
  • Ability to follow instructions and remain calm in high-volume environments
  • Comfortable working outdoors (ceremony is rain or shine)

Additional Information

Free post-term housing on Old Campus is available on a limited basis to students who have term-time housing on campus. Preference for housing will be given to students with additional post-term obligations, such as tour guides, FOOT Leaders, and Reunion clerks. Note that reunion clerks will be able to coordinate work as Commencement ushers with their YAA responsibilities.
The position also provides meal subsidies.
