Job Description |
Position: Residential Fellow Work Site: ?Yale University – New Haven, CT Dates: ?Wednesday June 17 (arrive by 9 am) – Friday July 31, 2026 (leave after 3 pm) Compensation: $?5,800 stipend (plus free housing and meals since this is a residential position) Work Schedule: Full-time – The Residential Fellow typically works 8-hour shifts, with an array of assignments ranging from work in the Program Office, assistance in the Wellness Office, or hall monitor shifts to support participants' needs and maintain inventory of game/supplies that participants can check-out. Participate in a shift rotation (including nights and weekends) established as a team during in-person Orientation.?Facilitates Family Time, which is a social, identity development and group teamwork curriculum for a cohort of 10-15 participants across all three program sessions. Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS) is a summer academic enrichment residential program for outstanding high school students from around the world that is administered by Yale’s Office of International Affairs (OIA). In 2026, YYGS will host up to 650 high school students at a time in a series of three 2-week sessions. Sessions will cover academic topics in STEM, social sciences, and cross-disciplinary areas. Around 100 staff members work at YYGS each two-week period, housed in two Residential Colleges on Yale’s campus. Each college contains a Residential Life Team comprised of one Residential Life Lead (RLL), and a team of Residential Fellows. Under the direct supervision of the Associate Director of Residential Life (ADRL), the Residential Life Team is responsible for maintaining a safe and welcoming YYGS community; ensuring the safety and security of YYGS participants; and facilitating residential activities and program operations in their respective college. Residential Fellows will also participate and host social/emotional/educational engagement activities for participants individually, and as a team. Due to the nature of this program, Residential Fellows may also be asked to help perform other duties as assigned by the ADRL. |

Job Requirements |
Duties and Responsibilities? 8-hour shifts daily throughout the session in the Program Office, Wellness Office, and hall monitoring. Participants visit the Program Office for all their non-academic needs such as lost keys, roommate conflicts, maintenance issues, and participant sign in/out.?The Wellness Office shifts may require that you accompany participants to Yale Health as needed. Hall monitor shifts will mainly take place during free periods to ensure that room capacity is being monitored, as well as ensuring participants are being respectful of communal spaces.
Family Time - “YYGS Families” are comprised of one staff member and 10-15 participants; which meet on a regular basis in the morning, and the goal of Family Time is to foster a tight-knit community for the participants during their time at YYGS. While supporting their social emotional needs, and serving as a mentor.
Speaker Series - Like TED talks, students audition to give a five to seven-minute talk in front of their YYGS classmates on a topic they’re passionate about and want to share. The Residential Life Team organizes the selection of speakers, helps participants prepare, and organizes the event for all 650 participants.?While also giving thoughtful feedback to enhance their presentation materials or public speaking abilities.
Free Time - Each evening after 9pm, weekend mornings, and on a few occasional afternoons. The Residential Life Team is responsible for providing supervision and offering optional activities for students to enjoy.?Each Residential Fellow is required to host 1 event per session. 2/3 events can be a collaboration with up to 3 other staff members.
Work with the rest of the Residential Life Team to run participant check-in/check-out. Check-in duties include ensuring that all participants successfully arrive at the program, distributing nametags, and helping families and students orient themselves. Check-out procedures include room inspections and collecting Prox cards, and room keys. ?
Work collaboratively to help ensure all 650 participants are present and engaged in each scheduled YYGS component. Proactively connect with students who may be absent by checking in with them in their rooms, classrooms, or other areas within campus.
