Job Description

The Tobin Center for Economic Policy at Yale University aims to strengthen families, communities, and the nation by providing actionable insights necessary to address our country’s most critical policy challenges. Tobin does this by enabling timely, relevant research, working with partners across academia, government, and non-profits, and training a more diverse and inclusive generation of social scientists and policy leaders. 

 

We are looking for an intern to support our communications team that translates Yale social science research for a wide variety of audiencesProjects may include: 

  1. Drafting, editing, and producing policy briefs and other content. Interns may help summarize findings from Yale social science research in blog posts, policy briefs, newsletters, and other written materials.  

  1. Organize and staff Tobin Center events. Interns may draft event invitations, manage RSVP lists, and staff events at Yale. 

  1. Draft media materials and build and maintain media lists. Interns may work in Cision and Excel to build media lists and draft press releases and other materials for distribution.  

  1. Manage Tobin’s CRM and support email marketing efforts. Interns will work in Mailchimp to maintain mailing lists, build signup forms, and draft newsletters and other emails.  

  1. Other tasks as needed. At the Tobin Center, our projects are constantly evolving, and events, communications needs, and other research needs may emerge at any time. As an intern, you may be asked to assist with any of these. 

 

Job Function: 

Will vary based on interest and project alignment but could include: 

  • Writing/Editing 

  • Marketing 

  • Media relations 

  • Data visualization 

  • Operations and event planning

  • Communication skills: You will hone your verbal and written communication via collaborative work environment 

  • Time management skills: You will be asked to manage multiple projects at a time (with lots of support) and will gain a better understanding of how to prioritize and make better time estimates as to how long tasks take you 

  • Excellent network in the policy space: Tobin staff have deep connections the state and federal government, non profit, and policy lab spheres

Job Requirements

Ideal Skills or Qualifications Needed: 

  • Skills specific to this role (which we will also help you develop) 

  • Highly competent reader, writer, and editor – ability to sort through high volumes of information and prioritize relevant information, identify key questions, and summarize succinctly and clearly 

  • Basic excel skills and interest in developing excel skills further 

  • Proficient with social media (specifically Twitter and LinkedIn) 

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills 

  • Nice to have: website design or graphic design experience (professional or personal) 

  • Skills we require all members of our Tobin team to have and to continue developing 

  • Curiosity and willingness to take on any task – you don’t know everything (no one does!) but you are willing to roll your sleeves up and try; no task is too big or too small

Compensation $17.00/hour
Job Level CY25: Level II
Hours 5.0 to 10.0 hours per week
