Job Description

The Whitney Humanities Center (WHC) seeks a talented and creative Yale student to serve as our Event Photographer. In this role, you’ll document public events at the WHC—capturing the energy, emotion, and exchange that define our vibrant intellectual community. Your photographs will appear on our website, social media, and across other platforms to help tell the story of the humanities at Yale.

If needed, we will provide a DSLR camera (Nikon D3500).

Most WHC events take place between 4–6:30 pm on weekdays.

Required: A portfolio sent to megan.odonnell@yale.edu.

Key responsibilities:

·         Photograph public events, capturing both candid and posed moments that reflect our dynamic speakers, audiences, and spaces

·         Follow shot lists and creative direction while using your artistic eye to create meaningful, story-driven images

·         Capture a visual narrative arc for each event—from early arrivals and audience engagement to moments of exchange and closing reflections

·         Collaborate with WHC staff and leadership to understand each event’s tone, goals, and atmosphere

·         Work confidently in low-light environments, including windowless auditoriums and theaters

·         Edit photos to enhance lighting, clarity, and composition while maintaining a natural, documentary feel

·         Deliver final images promptly via agreed-upon platforms

·         Occasionally assist with short video clips, if needed

·         Reliable, organized, and able to manage deadlines independently

·         Evening and occasional weekend availability (Hours are based on the WHC event calendar.)

·         Interest in the humanities, arts, and academia is a plus
