Job Description

 

The Assistive Technology Assistant will be a Graduate Student primary responsible for assistance with training new users on the functions of various assistive technology, managing student databases, troubleshoot assistive technology issues for faculty and students, and assist in the presentation of SAS SWAT services to different groups of students/faculty.  The Assistive Technology Assistants will need to learn how assigned technology works and come up with ways to assist new users in learning how to maximize the tools.  This could include creating instructional videos, developing FAQs, holding 1:1 tutorials, or some combination of the above. The number of hours will be variable, depending upon the number of students needing the service, and could shift throughout the semester. Proactive and enthusiastic candidates are encouraged to apply regardless of skill level.

 

Job Requirements

Graduate Assistive Technology Assistants should be a graduate student with at least 2 years left in their degree program. Exceptions may be made depending on skillset.

Skills: 

1. Aptitude for learning new technology. 

2. Interspersonal skills in training/communicating to others. 

3. Interest in creating digital content is a plus.

4. Successful candidate will need to be very reliable and reachable during scheduled work times.

5. Successful candidate will need to be patient and willing to repeat information when necessary.

6. Strong problem-solving skills and comfort with admitting a lack of knowledge or expressing a need for follow up. 

7. Detail-oriented, particularly when working with sensitive data.

8. Proficiency with Microsoft Suite is a plus.
