Job Description

The Middle Eastern and North African Cultural Community (MENACC) is a newly formed cultural community that reports to the Yale College Dean’s office. The MENACC is an institutional resource for students, faculty, staff and community members to convene and explore the cultural, historical, political, and social dimensions of the Middle Eastern and North African community. It offers a supportive environment that fosters students’ academic & personal growth, cultural pride, coalition-building, and leadership skills. The MENACC team includes an Assistant Director, a graduate assistant, peer liaisons, and undergraduate staff. 

 

The Graduate Assistant (GA) will support MENACC in connecting Yale graduate students and professionals to the center through programming and outreach efforts coordinated with center staff. As a key member of MENACC’s leadership team, the GA will work closely with the Assistant Director, peer liaisons, and undergraduate student coordinators to develop programs.

Additional responsibilities include: 

1. Program and Events Planning: Assist with MENACC signature events and initiatives, including coordinating logistics, promoting activities, and ensuring successful execution to enhance student engagement and community building

2. Intercultural Collaboration: Collaborate with other cultural centers on campus to develop and implement intercultural programming

3. Team Support: You will assist the Assistant Director in overseeing two undergraduate student coordinator teams, providing guidance and support in planning their event.

4. Perform additional duties as delegated by the Assistant Director of MENACC.

Job Requirements

The successful applicant must possess strong oral and written communication skills as well as organizational and analytical abilities. They should have a demonstrated ability to work well with diverse groups of people and possess excellent interpersonal and leadership skills. The ideal candidate should have a demonstrated ability to plan, manage, and coordinate academically focused, co-curricular events. A demonstrated interest in Middle Eastern and North African history, current affairs, and prominent issues is preferred.

The MENACC Graduate Assistant will need to work approximately 10-15 hours per week, with the position requiring evening and occasional weekend shifts. Required attendance will include: Center Staff Meetings (Wednesdays 6 pm - 7pm), 2025 Fall Retreat (Date TBD), and 2026 Spring Trainings (Date TBD). All other days and times to work are negotiable and will be determined a few weeks into the start of the semester. Please note, federal work-study for this position is highly preferred. MUST be able to work for the 2025-2026 academic year.
