Job Description

Under the supervision of the PI Dr. Ambrose Wong, providing a high degree of independence and 
limited supervision, the part-time student will have a unique and exciting opportunity to 
participate our PCORI funded federal projects. This project incorporates use of peer support 
workers in the emergency department, as well as electronic health record datasets to identify and 
prevent agitation.

•  This is a paid, part-time position with hybrid work options. This role will offer the unique 
opportunity to develop clinical research skills using qualitative and quantitative analytic skills 
while gaining patient interaction experience in the healthcare setting.

•  The student will have the opportunity to train in performing chart reviews from EpicCare 
(electronic health record), disseminating surveys to staff and patients using Qualtrics, managing 
databases on Excel and other statistical software, recruitment/enrollment of staff and patients in 
the emergency department, collection and analysis of qualitative interviews and focus groups with 
stakeholders, and analyzing datasets from Epic dashboards.

•  They will learn key skills in personnel management and interpersonal communication through 
coordination with key stakeholders, organization of datasets, scheduling meetings,
and reporting to PCORI project officers for various grant related activities.

 

Job Requirements

•  Required Skill #1: Exhibit strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to 
recruit subjects for clinical research. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication, and 
teamwork skills, including ability in training and working within a multidisciplinary team. Strong 
sense of responsibility, accountability, and self-motivation.

•  Required Skill #2: Highly organized with strong logistical skills and detail orientation. 
Ability to provide support for interviews and focus groups with participants while ensuring 
accurate collection of information, and documentation of events. Intermediate to advanced computing 
proficiency in Mac & Windows OS, Microsoft Office.

•  Required Skill #3: Ability to write and organize scientific/laboratory documentation. Self- 
motivated, dependable, attentive to details, and ability to take initiative and work independently.

•  Required Skill #4: Ability to complete eligibility screens with potential participants and to 
learn new information, utilize new materials, work cooperatively with research staff to provide 
support for recruitment in the emergency department. Ability to recruit patients in the emergency 
department at all hours of the day (day/evening/night) preferred.

•  Required Skill #5: Bachelor's or Master's degree in related field (preferred Psychology, 
Sociology, Social Work, Public Health). Experience recruiting subjects & knowledge of clinical 
trial processes: screening, interviewing, as well as knowledge of experimental design & statistics 
preferred. Demonstrated experience with qualitative research methods including data coding & 
thematic derivation preferred.

Compensation $16.50/hour
Job Level FY24: Level I
Hours 10.0 to 15.0 hours per week
