The Curator of Provenance Research seeks a Nancy Horton Bartels Intern to contribute to provenance research related to the Gallery’s permanent collections, focusing on historic owners of works of art. Responsibilities and tasks may include: compiling data related to works of art in the collection; researching and compiling data related to collectors, collections, commercial galleries, and prior owners of works of art; researching and organizing images of marks of ownership on the backs and undersides of works of art; and assisting with other daily administrative and technological tasks as needed. The successful applicant will be familiar with historical or art-historical research and must have prior experience working in a museum, gallery, or auction context and/or completed coursework in art history. They must have exceptional organizational skills, be attentive to detail, and be adept with technology and administrative tasks, including knowledge of MS Office and database applications. Reading knowledge of at least one foreign language is preferred, in particular German, Dutch, or French. The position will require that candidates be able to travel to our Collection Studies Center at Yale West Campus. |
