Position: Wellness Coordinator—Summer 2025
Work Site: Yale University – New Haven, CT
Dates: Wednesday, June 18 (9 am) – Friday, August 1, 2025 (3 pm) on campus
Compensation: $23/hour paid weekly (plus free housing and meals since this is a residential position)

Work Schedule: Full-time (30-35 hours a week) Wellness Coordinators are expected to work full-time on a shift rotation (8-hour shifts) from the start of the session to the end, which includes weekends and some overnight hours when “on-call”. These shifts are established as a team during in-person Orientation. Wellness Coordinators should expect more responsibilities during participants’ free time, meals, evenings and occasional overnight. 

Job Description

Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS) is an academic summer enrichment program for outstanding high school students from around the world that is administered by Yale’s Office of International Affairs (OIA). In 2025, YYGS will host up to 600 high school students in a series of three in-person academic enrichment programs (1,800 students total), each two-weeks in length. Sessions will cover academic topics in STEM, humanities, social sciences, and cross-disciplinary areas.

Around 80 staff members work at YYGS per two-week period, split across three sessions housed in Residential Colleges on campus. Wellness Coordinators are responsible for managing the overall health and wellness of all YYGS Participants and staff during the program. 

Members of the Wellness Staff triage illnesses and injuries of YYGS participants and staff, maintain accurate health records, and manage the YYGS Wellness Office. They encourage healthy habits and ensure the well-being of all individuals in the YYGS community. Due to the nature of this program, Wellness Coordinators may also be asked to help perform other duties as assigned.? 

Job Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities 

Manage the Wellness Office, especially during walk-in hours during free time and meals.

Ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all YYGS participants and staff.

Perform tasks such as recording temperature, blood pressure, respiratory rate.

Triage illnesses and injuries as they arise. If participants or staff members need to seek further medical care, escort them to Yale Health or Yale New Haven Hospital; this may include escorting the patient and remaining with them, as necessary. 

Ensure proper documentation of patient encounters.

Report any serious conditions and status of patient care to the Leadership Team. 

Maintain adequate first aid and appropriate infirmary supplies. 

Follow the precautions of infectious diseases to prevent the overall spread of organisms. 

Follow assigned policies, procedures, and restraints, and always maintain strict confidentiality. 

Perform other functions at the direction of the ADRL and Leadership Team. 

Skills and Specifications 

Responds appropriately to stressful situations. 

Communicates with others effectively. 

Detail oriented and supportive to students in distress.

Comfortable working with teenagers (ages 16-18) 

Demonstrates flexibility and willingness to help administer the program. 

Adheres to the appropriate health care procedures and policies. 

Available for occasional coordination meetings (online) in Spring 2025.
 

Experience and Training 

Required: Successful completion of background check 

Required: First Aid and/or Mental Health First Aid certified

Preferred: Current student pursuing a degree in the medical field or mental health field (nursing, public health, physician's assistant, counseling, medicine, etc.) or relevant experience

Preferred: Experience working with teenage population in an emergency or primary care setting
