Job Description

The Peabody Museum's Living Lab is a dynamic new hands on space filled with museum collection objects and living things. The space holds butterflies, lizards, ants, walking sticks, fish and a snake on view for the public. The Museum Animal Care Assistant will participate in feeding and cleaning the animals in the exhibition, and reporting any issues to the supervisory team. The work will take 60-90 minutes per day. Saturday and Sunday availability preferred- Sunday availability required. Responsibilities include: 

Principal Responsibilities:
1. Feeds, waters, and handles animals. Cleans enclosures as needed.
2. Prepares and administers special diets.This may include live insect food or frozen rodents.
3. Detects and report malfunctioning and/or defective equipment, such as filters and lights.
4. Follows all Museum policies including those related to integrated pest management.
5. Maintains required activity logs and records. Maintains inventory of supplies.

Job Requirements

1. Familiarity with aquarium filtration systems and water quality 

2. Experience with a diversity of animal species, including live insects and snakes

3. Comfortable interacting with customers, visitors and other public audiences 

4. Experienced in care of fishes, amphibians and reptiles.

5. Highly efficient and organized. 

Compensation $17.50/hour
Job Level FY24: Level III
Hours 3.0 to 6.0 hours per week
