The U.S. Grant Foundation, an educational partnership between Yale and New Haven since 1953. seeks one motivated, organized undergraduate to be one of the 2025 Co-Directors. Co-Directors will work closely alongside board members during the school year to plan the program and lead an undergraduate teaching team in a fun and fulfilling summer at Dwight Hall instructing academically motivated middle school students from New Haven public and parochial schools. This is a year-long position only open to Yale undergraduates who are not first-year students. |

Outline of Responsibilities: The Director, beginning in January 2025, work with the Ulysses S. Grant Board to recruit and hire a staff of six Yale undergraduates to work as Grant teachers. The Directors, as the leaders of the program, create a learning community for teachers and students, and motivate Grant teachers and students to perform at their best. To achieve this, the Directors will work in conjunction with Grant teachers, students and parents to celebrate successes and to fairly resolve issues and conflict. The Directors assist the board and volunteers to plan a week-long teacher training program for the Grant staff. The Directors support the staff by providing guidance in developing curriculum, lesson planning, and working with students and their families. The Directors supervise staff members to ensure that they are fulfilling their responsibilities, both leading up to and throughout the program. The Directors plan and execute the logistics of the summer program, from maintaining budgets and organizing field trips to overseeing the distribution of city lunches and managing student attendance. The Directors are responsible for the production of several documents, such as budget reports, teacher training schedule, board presentations, teacher resource guide, and two annual reports. The Directors serve as a liaison between Grant, the board, and Yale. To that end, the Directors attend the bi-monthly Board meetings to report on the program. The Director is responsible for all communication during the summer. This includes communication with the board, parents, students, the Yale and New Haven community. Position Benefits: The US Grant Co-Director position is a one year commitment and officially begins in January 2024. The Co-Directors earn $21.50 an hour for six hours a week when the US Grant program is not in session (January–May, and again August–December), and $25 an hour for 40 hours a week when the program is in session (June and July). Once a week, the Co-Directors and teachers attend a Couture Fellowship meeting, where they receive guidance from a seasoned educational professional. Dinner will be provided each week at the Fellowship meeting. Co-Directors and Grant teachers are all assigned a mentor, who is a professional educator to assist and support them from the time of hire through the duration of the program.
