QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants should have a willingness to work long hours outside in all types of weather; be able to handle and haul recyclables, garbage, and donated and/or discarded clothing; and be able to comfortably and safely lift 50 lbs. Candidates should also be punctual, reliable, and proactive, with strong communication skills, good judgment, and a sense of humor. During the planning and preparation period in April, Program Assistants are required to attend an orientation meeting. During the two move-out periods in April and May, Program Assistants are expected to work full-day shifts up to or exceeding 8 hours as needed. Program Assistants are required to have a cell phone where they can be reached by all parties during Spring Salvage. DATES OF EMPLOYMENT: All Spring Salvage Program Assistants must be able to work during underclass move-out (Phase 1, April 25-May 11) and senior move-out (Phase 2, May 19-23). Please note that there may also be work in between Phases 1 and 2. Students are allowed to work a maximum of 19 hours during weeks when classes are in session and a maximum of 40 hours during weeks after classes end. Work schedules will be prepared in advance, but they are subject to change during the program due to increased or decreased need. Any day that may have been scheduled for a full 8 hours of work may be less; in such an event, workers will be asked to leave early. Spring Salvage Program Assistants will be managed by Facilities/Recycling and the Office of Sustainability. The Office will work with undergraduate students to obtain post-term housing as needed.
