This is a Dwight Hall Volunteer Coordinator position supporting the Monk Youth Jazz and STEAM Collective (MJC).

Monk Youth Jazz and STEAM Collective (MJC) is a K-8 music and STEAM driven college and career readiness program that runs Monday-Friday from 3-5:30pm at the Dixwell-Yale University Community Learning Center (101 Ashmun St., New Haven, CT 06511). MJC is looking for Yale students to be present with their students during the afterschool program. Dwight Hall is working with MJC to identify a Volunteer Coordinator who can support MJC with this goal.

The Education Volunteer Coordinator (EVC) position will primarily involve:

• Recruiting Yale students to be volunteers at MJC.

• • The EVC will reach out to residential colleges, student organizations, academic departments, professors, friends, classmates, and other relevant contacts to identify energized volunteers for MJC. Thus, the EVC must be someone who is organized, timely, and resourceful. 

• Serving as the point person between MJC, Dwight Hall, and the student volunteers.

• • Once volunteers are identified, the EVC will help them coordinate the times they will be present at MJC and address any of their concerns and questions. The EVC will also report back to Dwight Hall with an update at least once a week.

• Being present at least two times a week at MJC.

• • In addition to coordinating volunteer efforts, the EVC is also expected to volunteer as well at MJC. Volunteering can include just being present with the MJC students and supporting their activities, or teaching a class or skill that would be fun and beneficial for the MJC students.
